The past few years, the Marist Redhawks have had more than there share of success, but one puzzle they have been unable to solve is how to beat the host Orphans at the CHT. Having been beaten by Centralia the past few years, including a 26 point loss last year in the semifinals, Marist returned several seniors who have suffered the heartache of losing that had motivation for more than the big trophy.
Ranked 3rd in the latest 4a rankings, Marist dominated their way to the finals, but the host Orphans were ready for the challenge themselves, as the 5th ranked 3a team battled their way all the way to the end. Ultimately, it was Marist raising the trophy following their 50-42 win over the hosts.
Centralia was led by Archie Goewey as the sophomore once again had an amazing tournament run finishing with 11. Barnes Jr led a balanced Marist attack with 14 and Tate added 11.
Centralia falls to 14-1 while Marist improves to 12-1 on the season. Both teams are poised for deep runs in their respective post seasons.
