Salem Police were called early Wednesday morning to a burglary to the fenced area around Rural King on West Whitaker Street.
Police say the back fence had been cut to gain access to the parking area where it appears an unsuccessful attempt was made to steal a mini bike. A further check of the buildings indicates no entry was made.
Initial reports indicated two people were seen in the fenced in area, but now police believe it may have been their officers that were spotted.
Salem Police and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Centralia Police canine, formed a perimeter around the store before they determined no one was still on the Rural King property.
Police were notified of the break in at 2:24 Wednesday morning.
