The Salem City Council Monday night will consider two tax increment financing district projects.

One would allow Dustin Gansauer to move Ace Auto Sales to the vacant Rollinson’s Home Center at 121 Westgate Avenue.  Gansauer places the total cost of the project at $1.1 million.  City staff is recommending a $100,000 reimbursement for property acquisition, $188,000 for exterior improvements, and $112,000 reimbursement for additional TIF eligible expenses to be paid out in installments of $11,200 for 11 years.

The other project is for Brian Pennypacker to develop his business TruSwing in the former Wabash Communications building at 123 East Main Downtown.  He estimates the total cost of the project at $400,000.  City staff is recommending reimbursing Pennypacker $20,000 towards building acquisition, $40,000 for rehab of the building and $2,000 for job training.

The city council will swear in three new police officers, Dylan Friend, Landon Tate and Cory Crouch.   The three new officers will return the police department to full strength.

The council will be asked to extend the contract with Matt Wilzbach to be city attorney an additional three years.

The council will be asked to approve a planning commission recommendation to create an agricultural zoning designation and then rezone the first property from Interchange Business into the new ag zone.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
