The Kinmundy Police Department took 14 kids shopping on Saturday thanks to a generous donation from the Kinmundy Methodist Church.

A different twist was added this year, as Police Chief Joe Duffy asked his son, also named Joe and a Kell Firefighter, to assist.

“I asked him if he wanted to participate in it, and he said of course,” said Chief Duffy. “He went through his chain of command with the Kell Fire Department, got approval, and here he is. This is his first year of Shop with a Cop, and he’s representing the Kell Fire Department.”

His son said, “I think this is an amazing thing we’re doing today. This is a time we get to come together. We come out here supporting the families, and it’s just a really great thing we’re doing out here.”

The two took the South Central Grade School students through the toy aisles and got them clothing and items for other family members.  One even requested food, which was also purchased.
