Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps presented the Deputy of the Year and the Correctional Officers of the Year awards at the department’s Christmas Party at the Salem Elks Saturday night.

Cripps named two part-time correctional officers, Ed Rankin and Steven Burroughs, as Correctional Officers of the Year.

“They never tell me no.  They are always available at the drop of a hat, and we have literally been across the United States picking up inmates and stuff like this.  They take our juveniles a lot to the juvenile facilities.  Sometimes they work eight to ten hours a day.   Their work doesn’t go unnoticed.”

The Deputy of the Year is Isaac Hayes.

“Isaac Hayes goes above and beyond in his work and his duties at the sheriff’s office.  He is always very respectful whenever he’s out and about in public.  Everybody in the office respects him.  We don’t have to quality check him.  He’s very good at his job.  It’s noticed enough that people say, ‘Hey, he would be a good deputy of the year. ‘  That’s what I listen to.  For any award like this, I try to listen to my staff.”

Cripps thanked the entire staff for their work and overtime hours and encouraged them to make nominations for the Correctional Officer and Deputy of the Year.
