Marion County Board Chair Steve Whritenour expects a merger of the Marion County, Salem, and Centralia Emergency Management Agencies.

He told the county board talks have been underway with Salem and Centralia City Officials to bring the agencies together.

“We’re finding ways that we can save a little bit of money here and a little bit of money there,” Whritenour said. “Having that under one umbrella versus three, it’s not a done deal yet. We’re still fine-tuning some things, but we hope in the next month or so that this will all come together.”

The merger is far enough along that applications are now being taken for the part-time coordinator position of the merged organization. The position will pay $30,000 a year.  Two part-time assistant coordinators are also being sought.  One will oversee operations and the other planning and administration.   They will pay $15,000 apiece.
