The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to approve up to a $2-million loan from the Illinois EPA to fund sanitary sewer improvements.
The council will also be asked to allow the police department to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Marion County Circuit Clerk’s Office to switch to e-citations from Quicket Solutions. The switch will improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in processing traffic and certain criminal offenses. The in-car printers include a scanner which accurately inputs all information from the driver’s licenses. The printers and scanners have already been distributed to participating agencies. All costs for the equipment, software, training and implementations will be covered by the circuit clerk’s office under a five-year agreement.
The council will consider an ordinance to allow TIF benefits to remain with a building at 2028 West Main used by North American Lighting after it is sold by Aaron Robb to Agracel. The proposed amendment includes terms designed to retain NAL as a long-term presence and employer in Salem.
The council could finalize changes to toughen the building code and nuisance ordinances.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
