Kell Firemen report five acres of a cut cornfield on the southeast corner of State Route 161 and Medlin Road, east of Centralia, burned early Thursday afternoon.
The fire apparently started when embers from an earlier brush pile went airborne after the wind kicked up. No one was around the fire when the fire department arrived. Firemen wet down the burned-out brush pile before leaving.
Firemen were on the scene for about an hour beginning around one pm.
