A vacant home on the north side of Mt. Vernon is most likely a total loss following a Thanksgiving morning fire.
Jefferson Fire reported flames and smoke upon arrival at the home owned by Steve Jones of Mt. Vernon at 1315 11th Street. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office. There were no injuries.
Jefferson Fire called Kell, Mt. Vernon, Wayne City, and Bluford all for mutual aid assistance. Woodlawn and McLeansboro stood by at the Jefferson Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire was reported at six Thursday morning with firemen remaining on the scene until about 8:30.
