Marion County hunters bagged 1,164 deer during the first shotgun deer hunting weekend last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
That is down from 1,272 deer taken during the first weekend last year.
The deer hunt totals are also down in all area counties and statewide where 51,409 deer were taken during the first weekend compared to 54,661 last year.
In Clay County, 988 deer were taken down from 1,118 last year. Clinton County hunters brought in 571 deer, down 735 from last year. Fayette County hunters bagged 1,275 deer compared to 1,298 last year. Jefferson County hunters brought in 1,356 deer, down from 1,406 deer last year. Washington County hunters killed 795 deer, up from 802 last year. Wayne County hunters bagged 1,097 deer, compared to 1,113 the prior year.
The second shotgun deer hunting weekend is December 4th through the 7th. For the first time, youth hunters with an unfilled, valid youth deer permit will be able to hunt in the second shotgun hunting season. Archery season continues through January 18th with the exception of the shotgun deer hunting weekend.
