Marah Johnson finished with 15 points 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots as she led the Lady Wildcats to their 3rd straight win at the DuQuoin Tournament beating the host Lady Indians 47-28. Jordan Kessler had 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds as well. Salem led the entire game, but they used a 13-0 run to end the first half to turn a 4-point first quarter lead to a 28-14 halftime advantage. Salem will play for their 2nd straight DuQuoin title this afternoon when they take on Pinckneyville at 3pm. The Lady Panthers beat Woodlawn to win their pool 43-35. The game has been moved to 3pm because Cairo didn’t show up last night and won’t be coming today so the 7th place game has been eliminated.
The day begins with Sesser/Valier/Waltonville taking on DuQuoin at 12 for 5th place. The 3rd place game has been moved up to 1:30 with Woodlawn and Christopher followed at 3 by the title game.
Day 2 of the Nashville Tournament was Friday. Mt Vernon lost to Okawville 53-40, Nashville routed Sacred Heart Griffin 76-26, Freeburg 52-34 over Collinsville and Centralia is 0-2 in tournament play with a 45-37 loss to Wesclin.
Also in girls hoops, Effingham 78-33 over Dieterich, Mater Dei beat St Anthony 52-32.
