Salem High dancer Abigail Onhiser is set to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Onhiser is an accomplished dancer as she competed in June at the Dance Nationals held in Batavia, Illinois and finished 2nd in overall Lyrical Solo.
On her way home with her family, Abbi saw an Instagram post about performing in the Macy’s Parade and did a little research on the application process. She eventually submitted an application and an audition tape of her Jazz Solo dance. Within a couple of days, she got an email that she had been chosen to join the Spirit of America Performance Team as a dancer in the parade.
Spirit of America Productions is the company who coordinates all of the dancers and cheerleaders for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Onhiser stared dance classes at Studio 50 at the age of 5. She was invited to join their competitive dance group at the age of 11.
In April of this year, at the Power of Dance competition in Clayton, Missouri, she received 4th place for her Lyrical Solo and 5th for her Jazz Solo, both out of more than 30 dancers in her level. She was awarded a Power Dancer invitation which entitled her to dance with other Power Dancer award winners in the Closing Ceremonies at Dance Nationals, where she ultimately competed as well.
