Maxine Mae (Sprehe) Edwards, 80, of Belleville, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, Friday, July 31, 2026.
Born December 16, 1945, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years James “Barney” Edwards, parents LeRoy and Verena (Dries) Sprehe, brother, Wayne and nephew Bradley (Shelby)Michael.
Survivors include children, Kristi Edwards, Kimberly (Edwards) Slater, husband Oscar, and James Edwards, wife Jessica (Carr); grandchildren, Jacob (Kimberly) Slater, and Kinsley (Kristi) Edwards; sister, Shelby (Sprehe) Mehrtens; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. An avid reader and bird watcher, Maxine could often be found with a good book or at her feeders, with cardinals always as welcomed visitors. She actively followed her grandchildren’s interests. Their biggest fan in all they did, she tried to never miss a volleyball game or theater performance. Resolute and strong willed, Maxine will be remembered for her kindness and immense love for her family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval, IL, with visitation for relatives and friends from 9:00 a.m. to until the time of service. Interment will follow at Pritchett Cemetery in Boulder, IL.
