Carol Marie Hutchison, 70, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away Monday, June 29, 2026 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born August 11, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Zilman Ray and Elizabeth (Johnson) Bright II. Carol married Richard Hutchison on January 23, 1971 and he survives. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage.
In addition to her beloved husband, Carol is survived by her children, Matthew Paul Hutchison and wife, Lisa and Tracy Sargent and husband, Darrin; grandchildren, Pharrah Sargent, Mason Hutchison, Addison Sargent and significant other, Drake Hoagland; great-grandchildren, Bryton Bradford, Bristal Bradford, Brinley Bradford, and Maevyn Kay Hutchison; sisters, Terri Long and husband, Bradley and Lisa Bright; sister-in-law, Bridget Phelps; brother-in-law, Mike Hutchison and wife, Donna; nieces and nephews, Wade Sparks, Kristopher Sparks, Zachary Long, Joshua Huff, Caleb Huff, Chad Phelps, Christi Ham, Lance Hutchison, and Laramie Hutchison; and her beloved dog, Duke.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her infant brother, Zilman Ray Bright III; stepfather, Robert C. Chenoweth; brother-in-law, Gene Phelps; niece, Myka Kitowski; and nephew, Wesley Huff.
Carol retired as a nurse after 34 years of serving others first at Good Samaritan Hospital and concluding her career at Dr. David Kelly and Dr. William Huffstutler’s practice. Carol was devoted, passionate, and caring of others. Carol developed life long friendships with her nursing family.
Carol loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Many of the best moments were marking memories with family and friends during the holidays. Carol was an excellent cook who made holiday meals special.
Carol was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Saint Louis Cardinals. She also enjoyed hunting seasons with her family.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, July 6, 2026 at 11:00 am at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. The South Central Nurse Honor Guard will conduct a service at the cemetery. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Carol’s honor to the American Diabetes Association.
Pallbearers include Mason Hutchison, Chad Phelps, Lance Hutchison, Laramie Hutchison, Kristopher Sparks, and Zachary Long. Honorary Pallbearers include Mark Cole, Drake Hoagland, Darrin Sargent, and Wade Sparks.
