An ambulance from the Metro-East crashed while taking a Centralia area patient home on New Year’s Eve.

The crash occurred on Wilkin Road west of Wamac.  The ambulance ran off the road and hit a power pole.  The pole broke and caused a second to lean, although it stayed upright.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Centralia Fire Protection District, and ambulances from Life Star and United Medical Response all responded to the scene.

Two crew and one patient were in the ambulance when the crash occurred.

The patient who was returning home from a Metro-East Hospital was taken the rest of the way home by a local ambulance.

The crash was reported at 10:10 on New Year’s Eve.
