A 34-year-old Sandoval woman has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery in Marion County Court in connection with an alleged stabbing at her home on December 23rd.

Siara Stokes of South Mine is accused in the two charges of intentionally stabbing Zach Higgins with a knife.  One count claims Higgins was stabbed in the hand with a knife while the second claims she stabbed him in the leg.

Stokes was ordered held without bond after her release was revoked on a prior aggravated battery case.   The judge found a significant risk of harm to Higgins if Stokes was released.

Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says the stabbing on Monday apparently occurred when Stokes wanted Higgins to leave her home.  He was gone when deputies arrived, but later returned to the home while police were still there.   Higgins was treated on the scene by Sandoval EMS and went via private vehicle to a hospital for treatment.

Due to a past Marion County felony conviction, Stokes faces an extended-term sentence if found guilty.

Stokes will be represented by a public defender.  She is due back in court on January 14th.

(story update on December 28th with new information on Stokes being held without bond based on a prior conviction.)
