Jefferson Fire officials say a trailer on a semi burned in a fire on southbound I-57 at the 103 mile marker near Dix Tuesday night.
The driver was able to get the rig onto the shoulder and disconnected the cab from the trailer before the fire spread from the back of the trailer towards the front. The trailer was loaded with paint products, some of which spilled onto the shoulder. A special cleanup crew was called in.
The truck is owned by Knight Transportation.
The fire call came in at 6:15 Tuesday night. Firemen were on the scene until about ten pm. The southbound lanes of I-57 were only blocked briefly. Kell and Mt. Vernon City Firefighters provided mutual aid assistance.
