The Salem Wildcats finished their season with a dominant 35-10 win over Charleston on Senior Night at Jim Finks Field. Salem jumped out to an 8-0 lead and turned that into a 28-3 lead at halftime. The only touchdown Charleston would get would be on a bad snap punt near the end zone they would scoop and score. Sophomore Wildcats quarterback Kaeden Bevolo finished 7-of-13 for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns. Lyric Black caught 2 of them, Marquis Ettress added a 29 yard TD catch. Lyric and Miking finished their high school careers combining for 9 catches for 120 yards. On the ground, sophomore Trey Clark carried it 28 times for 175 yards, Marquis rushed 6 times for 79 yards and senior Jeremiah Rhinehart also got in for a touchdown run.
Centralia junior running back Mike Brown had another great performance scoring 4 touchdowns on 21 carries and 175 yards helping the Orphans to a 35-19 win at Effingham. Brown finished the regular season with over 1400 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns. Archie Goewey went 16-of-22 for 181 yards and a touchdown pass to Mike Organ. Xavier Koch and Kenny Bratton also combined to catch 12 balls for 141 yards. Centralia is 6-3 and will wait until tonight to find out who they will be playing in round one of the playoffs next weekend. The selection show is at 8pm.
On a night where JaShawn Staples surpassed 1000 yards rushing, the Mount Vernon Rams were shocked on the road losing to Alton 33-32. The Rams finish the season at 3-6.
East St Louis fell at home in overtime to IMG Academy 14-13. IMG had 4th down and needed a touchdown and PAT to win it, threw a prayer in the end zone and it was answered.
Also last night, Breese Central finishes 9-0 with a 50-6 win over Herrin, Columbia beat Jerseyville 21-14, Freeburg over Priory, Missouri 55-21, Flora knocked off Sesser Valier 22-16. Marion beat Mattoon 55-34, Mt Zion outgunned Mater Dei 56-37, Olney is 9-0 and wins the Little Illini Conference with their 50-27 win over Robinson. Wood River lost to Red Bud 46-32, Carlyle fell to Red Hill 22-20, Roxana shutout Marquette 42-0, Vandalia over Litchfield 54-25.
