The Fuzion 08 opened up the Southeast National Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee yesterday going 2-0. Layla McBride was the winning pitcher in Game 1 giving up just 1 run after 5 innings with 6 strikeouts in a 4-1 win over the Ohio Pride. During the game, the Fuzion players were wearing special green and purple hair ribbons in support of Windsor/Stew-Stras who lost 3 incoming freshmen in a tragic side by side accident last week.
The Fuzion then beat the Louisville Sluggers Rowell 2-1 behind strong pitching from Emrie Quick. She allowed 1 hit and struck out 10.
They return to action today to finish up pool play against the Wisconsin Redbirds.
Prior to the start of the tournament the Fuzion already picked up hardware in the skills competition. Arwyn Wilkey, Cede Smith, Emrie Quick, Ava Maxey and Layla McBride were 1st in the Around The Horn Challenge. McBride was also 2nd out of 54 teams in pitching velocity.
