Three Mt. Vernon residents were injured in a one vehicle crash on State Route 148 just south of Veterans Memorial Drive on the south side of Mt. Vernon early Friday morning.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard says the driver, 21-year-old Lansdale Hunter of West 9th, said he lost control when he swerved to miss a deer.  He ran off the road and struck a tree.  The vehicle then caught fire after all three occupants were out.

Hunter was taken to Crossroads Community Hospital for treatment while two passengers were taken to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.   The passengers are identified as 25-year-old Jaymela Hunter of West 9th and 33-year-old Nikko Branch of South 19th.

Sheriff’s Department reports indicate all three sustained minor injuries.

Jefferson Fire was called to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The crash was reported at 3:38 Friday morning.
