A 4th of July music festival drew a crowd to the band stage at Bryan Memorial Park before the annual independence day fireworks display over the Salem Reservoir.

City Clerk Tabatha Meador picked up the planning for the event following the unexpected death of ‘Dug’ Drenckpohl who had made the arrangements for the bands.

“We lucked out with the weather.  The skies cleared off and we were able to have all the bands perform.  We had a great crowd.  Luke Purcell has a local following.  Cody Phillips always does a great job.  And Murphy 500 has brought a crowd to the park with people that I don’t know have been to Salem much or the 4th of July here so it’s been a great day.”

Meador says several of the food trucks sold out as those attending came hungry and thirsty.

A large crowd then gathered around the Salem Reservoir for the fireworks display.

It wasn’t until 10:30 Thursday morning until a decision was made to go forward with the event.  Fortunately, the threat of additional thunderstorms later in the day never materialized.
