The trophy games will be played for tonight at SCHS Field for the Summer Varsity High School Baseball League. Salem will battle Centralia for the championship. The Wildcats earned their spot after having their Wednesday afternoon semifinal forfeited by Flora due to lack of players. Salem improves to 9-3 with the win and will await the Orphans whom they have defeated 3 times in 3 matchups this summer.
Centralia squeaked their way into the finals after beating Mount Vernon 4-3 on Tuesday night. Playing in between the rain, thunder and lightning Centralia led 4-3 after five innings. The Rams would plate 4 runs of their own in the top of the sixth to take a 7-4 lead, but the rain wouldn’t allow the game to continue. So they revert back to the last completed full inning, which was the fifth, which led to Centralia’s win.
The first game today will be for 3rd place at 5:30 between Flora and Mount Vernon followed by the 7:30 championship.
