The Salem Cats 10u Team Rushing softball travel team ended their 2023-2024 season this weekend with a double header at Vandalia on Saturday and a Round Robin at Casey, IL on Sunday.
On Saturday, Salem Cats wins over Fayette County Freedom 9-6. Julianna Rushing started in the circle for Salem Cats. She gave up zero hits, 6 runs (3 earned) over three innings, striking out 9 and walking two. Offensively, Shaylee Vest and Brinn Detmer each drove in a run for the team. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing 12 walks for the game.
In the second game, Salem Cats win in fashion, with a 6-4 walk off victory over Fayette County Freedom. Cats were down 4-3 in the bottom of the 4th inning when Julianna Rushing tripled, scoring 3 runs. Skylar Gaston started in the circle for the Cats, she allowed 0 hits, 3 runs over 2 1/3 innings, striking out 3 and walking 4. Gwen Goostree came in relief, she surrendered 0 hits, 0 runs over 1 inning, striking out 3 and walking 2.
On Sunday, Cats traveled to Casey to play against Dietrich Crush 10u and Chaos 10u. Cats surge past Chaos 7-1 thanks in part to a big 5th inning. Shaylee singled, scoring 2 runs, Josey Gibson singled, scoring one run. Gwen earned the win for Cats, she surrendered 4 hits, 1 run over 5 innings, striking out 5 and walking none.
In the second game, Kaylee Carroll drove in 6 runs on two hits to lead the Salem Cats past Dietrich Crush 15-3. Kaylee hit an inside the park grand slam in the second inning, scoring 4 runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring one. In the game, Josey also singled, scoring 1 run, Brinn doubled scoring 1 run and Shaylee doubled scoring 2 runs. Kaylee started in the circle for Salem, she surrendered 0 hits, 0 runs, striking out 2 and walking none in the 1st inning. Brinn threw 1 inning of 0 run ball. She surrendered 1 hit, striking out 1 and walking none. Shaylee pitched the last inning, striking out 2 and walking 3.
