The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to work with Mission Salem on a new location for their work in building handicapped ramps to help keep residents in their home.

City Manager Annette Sola is requesting the council approve a ten year renewable lease for a 150 by 150 square foot city owned property on South Hotze Road where Mission Salem can build a new facility.  The agreement will include language that outlines how the property will be handled, should Mission Salem decide to end their mission.   Mission Salem will lose their current location on a $1 a year city lease for the former Save-a-Lot building on West Main.   The city plans to put that property up for sale July 1st since it is no longer being considered as a future location of the police department.

Sola says she is not comfortable with making a recommendation to extend a contract with Good Energy another six months even though the company has negotiated an agreement that would allow residential customers in Salem to begin receiving a lower rate for electricity in December.   The rate would drop from the current .11 cents per kilowatt hour to 7.5-cents.   Sola notes the bad news is those using the city’s electric aggregation will have to pay the .11 cent rate until December, when Ameren began offering the lower rate to its customers on June 1st.

The council will also be asked to hold the Salem Super Cruise Car show in Bryan Memorial Park on Saturday, September 7th.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
