Marion County Resident Circuit Court Judge Mark Stedelin ordered an 18-year-old Centralia man charged with Class X felonies of armed robbery and home invasion as well as an aggravated assault charge to remain in the county jail without bond.

Steward Stumbaugh of Brookside Avenue made his first appearance in Marion County Court on the charges Monday.   He’s accused of entering a home in the 300 block of West Kell on Saturday night.  While the occupant was investigating the noise, Stumbaugh is accused of jumping out at him while armed with a butcher knife and threatened to kill him if he didn’t give him money.  The victim gave the suspect $60 and he left through the front door.

In ordering Stumbaugh held without bond, Judge Stedelin noted he is accused of committing a random violent crime and that he was not likely to comply with pre-trial release conditions.

Stumbaugh had a public defender appointed to represent him.  A preliminary hearing was set for July 16th.
