Smith Currently 2nd In Shot & 4th In Discus Heading To Finals – Donate To Help Send Salem Jumpers To Nationals

By WJBD Staff May 25, 2024 | 7:41 AM

Salem senior Caleb Smith currently sits 2nd in the shot put and 4th in the discus heading into this morning’s finals.  Freshman Madden Thompson failed to get out of the preliminaries.  Thompson will join fellow freshmen Avery and Payton Gullion at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia where they will compete in the high jump after qualifying over the course of this season.  If you would like to help them by donating, there is a Go Fund Me setup and the link can be found in this story on our website or on either the WJBD Radio or A Seat Above The Stands Facebook page or contact me, Toby Gullion, via email at sports@wjbdradio.com.

Tough day for the Orphans at the IHSA State Prelims. Leonard Bratton finished 31st with a mark of 41’ 3.75”, failing to make finals. Arion Hill fell after hitting the first hurdle in his 110 H Hurdles heat and was advised by their medical staff not to compete in the 300 I Hurdles. Hill had the fastest 2A 110 time by nearly two full tenths of a second. These two will bounce back and be prepared for a big senior year campaign. Not the way we wanted to finish the season, but we will all learn and grow from this experience.

Christ Our Rock’s Landyn Mitchell will run today in the Class 1a 110 hurdles finals.
