Firefighters fight smokey fire on Racetrack Road late Wednesday afternoon.

Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera has released more details on a late Thursday afternoon fire that heavily damaged a portion of a home east of Centralia.

He reports a resident at the David Mitchell home at 1116 Racetrack Road had returned home to find smoke coming from the residence.

Arriving firemen found the fire burning in a laundry room area.  The fire was just burning through a wall of a neighboring room when firefighters got a quick knockdown.   While the fire gutted the one room, the rest of the home sustained smoke damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  There were no injuries.

The Centralia Fire Protection District received mutual aid assistance from the City of Centralia Fire Department, Odin Fire Protection District, and Kell Fire Protection District on the scene with Irvington and Sandoval Firemen standing by at the Centralia Fire Protection District in the event of another fire.

The fire call first came in at 4:40 Wednesday afternoon.
