The Wamac City Council on Monday approved an amendment to the city’s Motor Fuel Tax appropriation for 2024. In April, the council had approved appropriating $92,000 in MFT money to oil and chip all of the city’s streets this year, with the exception of Wabash Avenue, which is a paved road.

However, City Clerk Marian Suhl reported on Monday that she had been contacted by Illinois Department of Transportation officials, who advised that the $2.15 per gallon estimate for oil contained in the appropriation was far too low and that the city should estimate $3.15 per gallon so accurate bids could be received for the project. The revised MFT appropriation approved by the council is $23,180 higher than the original appropriation.

In other business, the council approved a $4,700, one-year contract with Susan Lyons for Lyons to perform auditing duties for the city. The council also approved making a $50 donation to the Dudley Henry Golf Tournament that will support the Centralia Elks, and the council voted to accept the donation of property located at 333 Sanders Street from Christina Morgan.

Suhl also advised the council that Friday, June 21 will be Sunrise Sanitation’s “spring cleanup” day. The cleanup service is offered to Wamac trash customers only.
