A 45-year-old Centralia man has been charged with aggravated battery and felony domestic battery after allegedly biting and stabbing a Centralia woman at his home.

Emmanuel Neal of Cormick Street was arrested as a result of a May 9th incident.  The victim, who was 13 weeks pregnant, was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment.

While at the hospital, the victim allegedly showed Centralia officers multiple bite marks on her ankle and arm as well as a stab wound under her armpit.

Neal claimed the alleged victim attempted to hit him with a machete he keeps in his camper and snapped because she was reportedly trying to harm him.

Neal is currently on pretrial release in a Marion County case for defrauding a financial institution, an Effingham County case for theft, and a Coles County case for domestic battery against the same victim.

In ordering Neal detained, Judge Mark Stedelin noted he has violated the no-contact order in the Coles County case, admitted biting the alleged victim, and would not abide by the court’s orders.
