The weather may have looked threatening, but it didn’t keep a good crowd from showing up Saturday to help with the Keep Salem Beautiful annual cleanup.

Coordinator Kelli Predium says about 100 in all helped clean Bryan Memorial Park, Mueller Park, behind Walmart and along North Hotze Road.

“We had a wonderful turnout.  We’ve collected over 50 bags of trash.  We had 14 families that came out.  6 high schoolers completed I-pad hours.  American Heritage Girls are winning our attendance trophy for bringing the most volunteers.”

Predium says as usual there were a lot of interesting items found.

“We found a wig, a checkbook, flip flop, plastic dinosaur toy, unscratched lottery tickets, positive pregnancy test, pencil, tube sock, tire, lawn chair…all kinds of crazy stuff.”

The event began with Mayor Nick Farley presenting a proclamation declaring Keep Salem Beautiful Clean Up Day.

Predium is thanking Salem Township for providing a $500 donation towards supplies and Modern Woodman for providing the lunch.

Salem Public Works crews hauled off the 41 bags of items collected during the cleanup.
