A 30-year-old Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with threatening a public official.
Blake Shafran is accused of telling a Central City Police Officer transferring him to the Marion County Jail following an arrest for possession of methamphetamine that he couldn’t wait to get out of jail to beat him up. He faces an extended-term sentence if found guilty of both threatening a public official and possession of under five grams of methamphetamine due to a past Marion County felony conviction.
Shafran had also allegedly made other threats to beat up officers after police were called on Wednesday to investigate a criminal damage to property complaint about a car driving through a ditch and becoming stuck in the mud in a yard. He told police they better search well because there was ten pounds of methamphetamine in the car, but only a small baggie with what field tested positive for meth was located in the driver’s seat.
Shafran is on parole on four other felony convictions including mob action, theft, and possession of a controlled substance and meth.
Due to the alleged threats, new charges of threatening officers, and already being on parole, Shafran was ordered held without bond on the new charges. He is next scheduled to be in court on May 7th for the first appearance with counsel.
