It is Gary Gaetti Day in Centralia.

The honor is bestowed upon the 20 year major league baseball player who earned many achievements and records during his storied career that included stints with six teams including the Cardinals and Cubs.

The proclamation also honors his hard-work, dedication and God-given ability that has provided years of enjoyment and pride to the citizens of Centralia.

Gaetti was at this week’s Centralia City Council meeting where Mayor Bryan Kuder declared the day.

“Extremely honored also and I wish there was a way I could share it.  We are trying to give back and do good things.  Always been a good baseball and sports town.  I’m really excited about a lot of things happening here in town and our Academy and be able to teach baseball and continue the tradition.  It has been a huge blessing in my life.”

As part of Gary Gaetti Day, there will be an open house and free home run derby for all ages at the Gaetti Sports Academy from four to six Thursday afternoon.

Gaetti will also be available for pictures at Stonewater Restaurant at Castle Ridge from six to eight Thursday night where he hopes to meet many baseball fans.
