A 22-year-old St. Peter man has been sentenced to three years in prison in Marion County Court after pleading guilty to a garage burglary.
Drew Gherardini of Holeman Street admitted to breaking into the garage of a home on Route 37 north of Salem near the Basom Road intersection. A charge of theft of a truck from the residence was dropped as part of the plea. The truck was later found abandoned stuck in a field near the Log Cabin Village in Kinmundy. Gherardini was identified when the sheriff’s department asked the public for assistance in identifying a person seen in video surveillance at the residence.
Charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting or obstructing a peace officer from a separate incident in December of 2023 were also dropped. Centralia Police say three officers received injuries in the incident.
As part of the plea, Gherardini was also ordered to complete one year of mandatory release, given credit for 34 days served in jail, and recommended for substance abuse treatment while in prison.
