The Wamac City Council voted Monday evening to pursue the acquisition of three dilapidated properties in the community. Council members approved a motion to submit bids of $832 each to Illinois Tax Sale for properties located at 641 Gilmore, 327 Kroeger, and 339 Sanders. Officials say the city intends to clean up the properties once they are acquired.

In other action, the council approved a motion to authorize Municipal Equipment to make sewer pump repairs. Those repairs carry estimated costs of $2,303.42.

The rental of a hydro-excavator from Sunbelt Rentals, at a cost of $2,052.47, was also approved. The weeklong equipment rental will aid the city with a project to install new digital water meters.

The council also discussed the possibility of implementing a no-parking zone along Brookside Avenue, between 13th and 17th streets, citing visibility issues when a large number of vehicles are parked along the street in that area. However, the proposal died when no one on the council seconded a motion to bring it to a vote.
