Kell Firemen fought a fire late Sunday afternoon that spread through 10 acres of CRP land and eight acres of wood.
The fire in the 23-thousand block of North Hails Lane in rural Texico apparently started from a controlled burn that got out of hand.
Jefferson Fire responded with a brush truck while Mt. Vernon City Firemen stood by at the Kell Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at six Sunday night and were on the scene for nearly three hours.
