A Richview and Decatur man were both pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on US 51 at the Irvington exit at 7th street on Sunday night.
Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger identified the two victims as the drivers of the two cars involved, 43-year-old Bradley Robb of Richview and 26-year-old Tyler King of Decatur. They were both pronounced dead on the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
State Police say the Ford Mustang driven by Robb was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US 51 when it hit the northbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by King head-on.
The Robb car was fully engulfed in fire upon arrival of the fire department.
Traffic in both lanes of US 51 was shut down for hours after the 9:41 pm crash with motorists diverted through Irvington while the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash.
The coroner says the cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma for both individuals and the manner of death is accidental. Toxicology samples were obtained from both victims for routine testing.
The crash continues to be investigated by the Illinois State Police and the Washington County Coroner’s Office. As this accident requires extensive investigation, no further information is available at this time.
Agencies at the scene were the Washington County Ambulance Service, Irvington Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Irvington Fire Department, Illinois State Police, Washington County EMA, and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
