It was regional championship night in prep basketball.
The Centralia Orphans moved to 30-2 on the season winning the Marion 3a regional over the host Wildcats 42-35. Centralia will advance to the Triad Sectional where they will get Highland next week. Also in 3a, Mt Vernon won the Charleston regional over Olney 40-37, Mt Zion over Champaign Central at Danville 72-39, Highland won the Freeburg Regional over Mascoutah 47-45 and East St Louis beat Triad at Jerseyville 58-39.
Christ Our Rock won the school’s first ever regional title as they beat the hosts at Edwards County 39-35. The Stallions advance to the St Anthony Sectional next week against Tuscola. Also in 1a regional title games, Webber pulled off the upset at Altamont over the host Indians 57-45, Arcola upset top-ranked St Anthony in overtime at Okaw Valley 57-52, Gibault beat New Athens 53-45, Tuscola won the Casey regional over the hosts 53-37, Goreville beat Crab Orchard 81-51 at Cobden, Mounds Meridian beat the hosts at Hardin County 79-48, Madison won at home beating Metro East Lutheran 50-44 and at Woodlawn, Waltonville beat Okawville 52-26.
Breese Central won their own 2a regional over Pinckneyville 42-21, Wesclin beat the host Eagles at Columbia 53-49, Massac County won at home over Vienna 62-58, TTown beat the hosts at Newton 50-48, Roxana lost at home to Marquette 48-43, Flora beat Robinson 59-58 at Vandalia, Auburn beat Greenville 54-42 at Virden, Benton over Carterville 64-48 at West Frankfort.
In 4a at Edwardsville, Quincy beat O’Fallon 48-42 and at Granite City it was Belleville West upsetting Collinsville 58-56.
