Centralia City Firemen handled two small fires on Friday.

The first was a small fire along the outside of a garage wall in an alleyway in the 600 block of Gragg Street.  The fire at the Kandice and Timothy Vaughn home caused minor damage to the siding.  The cause has not been determined.

The second fire was late Friday night when a potted plant caught fire.  The blaze was outside the Sheena and Juyam Crosby home in the  700 block of South Sycamore.  The fire apparently was a result of a procedure used earlier in the day to burn back part of the plant to promote growth.  It was not apparently fully extinguished and the container later caught fire.  It was spotted by a neighbor across the street who joined a Centralia Police officer in putting out the fire with a hose before firefighters arrived.
