Mt. Vernon man allegedly shot trying to forcibly enter home arrested for felony trespassing

Mt. Vernon Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reports a 44-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been arrested for felony criminal trespassing after allegedly being shot while trying to forcibly enter a home on Monday.

Dewayne Corbett reportedly received only very minor wounds and refused medical treatment.

The incident occurred at a home in the 11-thousand block of East Stone Road. Corbett was still on the scene when officers arrived. Police confirmed a handgun was fired by one of the victims while Corbett was allegedly attempting to force his way into the dwelling after damaging the exterior of the residence.

In a news release, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reports an investigation revealed Corbett had tried entry to at least two other dwellings, before his attempted forced entry on East Stone Road.

Corbett was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await a decision on any formal charges.
