Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says with the help of the public they were able to identify and later arrest a 22-year-old St. Peter man in connection with a garage burglary and car theft from a home on Route 37 north of Salem near Basom Road.
Drew Gherardini is being held in the Marion County Jail for alleged burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle as well as on a no bond Marion County warrant for aggravated battery to a police officer and outstanding Clinton and Fayette County warrants.
The incident occurred last weekend with the car found stuck in the field off Gesell Road near the Kinmundy Log Cabin Village last Sunday morning.
Cripps says detectives were able to recover video from the homeowner. After some still clips were pulled out and placed on the Marion County Sheriff’s app several people quickly contacted the department with the identity of the man.
Cripps reports Gherardini was located at a Salem home and taken into custody. A search warrant was later executed on the Salem home where some of the items stolen from the garage were allegedly recovered.
Cripps is thanking the public for their help in solving the case.
