Gary D. “Moose” Smith, born the youngest of Ernest Smith and Grace (Timmons) Smith on September 17, 1952, in Centralia, Illinois passed away on January 24, 2025, surrounded by family.
He married Mary Ruth Dillinger on February 4, 1975. They had one son, Steve.
Gary worked for his brothers until he started his own concrete and basement company. He loved living out in the country where you would often see him riding his lawn mower or out on his tractor. He had a great sarcastic humor, was a homebody, loved to sit and watch his favorite shows on TV, and loved his family deeply.
Gary is survived by wife, Mary Smith; son Steve Smith; granddaughters, Stacy (Andrew) Wheeler and Amanda Davis; grandson, Andrew Davis; great-granddaughters, Amber Wheeler “Girl with the curls” and Topanga ” Lulu” Wheeler; great-grandson, Alistair “Guns” Sullivan; brothers, Jack (Barb) Smith and Don Smith; sister, Bea “Sis” (Gene) Owens; brother-in-law Tom ( June Ann) Dillinger and a sister-in-laws Shirley Smith and Sandy Smith. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Grace Smith; brothers Jim Smith and Richard “Dick” Smith and In-laws, Connie and Kermit Stinde.
Per Gary’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no public service will be held.
