The Salem Wildcats beat down visiting DuQuoin on Saturday night knocking off the Indians 70-35. The Cats got 18 of his game high 24 points from Gavin Zimmermann in the first half helping Salem to a 41-18 advantage at the break. Sam Greene added 10 and Brennan Richards had 9 points and 9 rebounds. The Salem JV fell 51-48. The JV/Varsity is back in action Tuesday at Mater Dei.
Tonight, the Salem Freshmen will host Olney starting at 6pm.
The Centralia Orphans knocked off Teutopolis at the Pinckneyville Shootout 58-24 behind 15 from Dustin Collins. The Orphans improve to 23-2 on the year.
Also in prep hoops on Saturday, Columbia lost to Belleville West 50-47, Breese Central beat Highland 56-46, Carlyle nipped Nashville 42-40, Flora over Hamilton County 53-31, Freeburg beat McGivney 65-53, Woodlawn lost to Goreville 73-55, Mount Vernon routed Mater Dei 62-45.
At the NTC Tournament, St Anthony beat Dieterich in the championship 70-60 behind Tournament MVP Ryan Schmidt. Altamont won the 3rd place game over St Elmo/Brownstown 54-44. South Central won the 7th place game beating CHBC 45-42. North Clay won the consolation title over Windsor/Stew-Stras 66-49.
