Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger says a 63-year-old Venedy woman was killed in a rear-end crash on Illinois Route 127 at Holzhauer Auto Mall Drive in Nashville.

Denise Dyck was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:18 Tuesday evening.  The coroner says Dyck was the unrestrained driver of a vehicle in the northbound lane of State 127 waiting to turn into the Holzhauer Auto Dealership when she was struck from the rear by another northbound vehicle.  The impact pushed her vehicle into the southbound lane where it was struck head-on by a southbound vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was transported from the scene with major injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle which struck Dyck refused treatment.

Toxicology samples were obtained by Coroner Styninger for routine testing. Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction unit responded to the scene as well which caused the highway to be shut down for hours.  The cause of death appears to be a closed head injury with a cervical fracture.  The manner of death is accidental.

Agencies at the scene were the Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Nashville Fire Department, Washington County EMA, Pinckneyville Ambulance Service and the Washington County Coroner.

The crash continues to be investigated by the Nashville Police Department, Illinois State Police and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
