The Central City Village Board on Tuesday night approved a motion to formally name a park within the village as “West Side Park.” The park had been informally referred to as “West Park.”
Village officials say the park is the property of the Central City School district, but the school has agreed to deed the park to the village, and it is expected that the process will be completed soon. The village board agreed to seek prices for new signs that denote “West Side Park.” However, the purchase of signs is not expected to take place until after the village’s new budget has been approved.
The board also discussed, but took no formal action, regarding the village’s lack of an animal control officer. Mayor Neely Reed says he is waiting for potential answers from Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth on the issue. Reed told the board he would be open to teaming up and sharing costs with other small communities in the area which also lack a designated animal control officer.
