A Woodlawn home was heavily damaged by fire Friday night.
Woodlawn Fire Chief Bill Shega says the fire started as a chimney fire, spread to the attic, and eventually throughout the two-story home. He said the extremely strong wind hampered the firefighting effort.
The three family members in the home at 15375 North Woodlawn Lane were all able to get out safely. The names of the occupants were not immediately available.
Woodlawn received mutual aid from Irvington, Waltonville, Mt. Vernon, Jefferson Fire, Ashley, Centralia Fire Protection District, Kell, and Hoyleton Firemen on the scene with Centralia City and Bluford Fire standing by at the station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 9:05 Friday night with firemen on the scene for about three hours.
