The Salem Wildcats had a brief lead with just over 5 minutes left to play last night in Mount Vernon, but Navontae Nesbit Jr hit a big three on the next Rams possession and they would hold on to knock off Salem 52-46.

Salem’s Gavin Zimmermann hit 5 three pointers to score 15 points.  Samuel Greene played very well, hitting a big 3 to give Salem the lead in the final quarter.  The senior also had 15 points.  Connor Tennyson chipped in with 10.

Nesbit led Mount Vernon with 19 and sophomore Cale Mauer hit some big shots in the 2nd half and played really good defense and finished with 13.  Freshman Dave Barnes added 8.

The Wildcats fall to 5-12 as they prepare for a conference match up at Roxana on Friday.  Mount Vernon improves to 12-4 and will host Carbondale in South7 play on Friday before traveling to Evansville Memorial on Saturday.
