Christ Our Rock Playing For Vandalia Title Today…Area Holiday Tournament Scores/Recaps

Vandalia:  The 9th seeded Christ Our Rock Stallions will play for the Vandalia Tournament title tonight after finishing pool play 3-1 beating Pana 58-32 on Thursday.  They will take on Shelbyville at 8pm after they ran through their games 4-0 including beating Vandalia yesterday 64-47.  Pana and Cumberland start the day at 2 with the 9th place game, then Flora and Okaw Valley for 7th, Macon Meridian plays Nokomis in the 5th place game with Greenville and Vandalia playing for 3rd.

Also yesterday Okaw Valley beat Cumberland 59-33, Nokomis also beat Cumberland 41-40, Flora over Pana 53-44 and Greenville beat Macon Meridian 63-37.

Dieterich:  The SC Cougars finished 7th at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament beating Ramsey in their trophy game 57-47.  Seven different Cougars scored.

Dieterich knocked off Sullivan in the championship 57-45, Arcola beat Grayville for 3rd 61-56, Red Hill in double overtime beat CHBC 70-63.

Mater Dei:  The bracket is set for the Mater Dei Christmas Tournament.  The Gold Bracket will see Wesclin and Red Bay, Alabama playing in one semifinal tonight at 7 followed by Breese Central and Nashville.

The Silver Bracket semifinals will have Chicago Bowen and Mascoutah followed by Orchard Farm and Mater Dei.

The Bronze Bracket semifinals are Metro East Lutheran against Wethersfield and McCluer takes on Riverview Garden.

Pool play finished yesterday with Bowen over MEL 58-51, Nashville beat Wethersfield 71-44, Wesclin over Orchard Farm 62-53, Central beat Bowen 74-45, Mascoutah 70-39 win over Wethersfield and Red Bay beat Mater Dei 55-52.

Columbia/Freeburg:  The final day is set for the Columbia/Freeburg Tournament.  The host Eagles will play for the title against Marquette.  The day starts with Gibault against the JV of Columbia for 7th place, Nelson County, Kentucky will play Freeburg for 5th, Civic Memorial takes on Waterloo for 3rd.

Yesterday, Freeburg beat the Eagles JV 78-35, Nelson County over Civic Memorial 55-52, Marquette beat the JV team 68-34, Civic Memorial over Gibault 54-42, Columbia beat Nelson County 68-35 and Waterloo over Freeburg in overtime 58-54.

Carlinville:  The Carlinville Tournament final day is set.  East Alton Wood River dropped their pool play finale to the hosts 67-62 in overtime to finish 1-2.  The Oilers will play Hillsboro for 5th place today after Gillespie and Bunker Hill in the 7th place game.  Carlinville and Staunton will play for 3rd followed by the championship featuring Litchfield and Calhoun.

Eldorado:  The Eldorado Tournament finished up yesterday with Herrin beating Massac County in the title game 56-51.  Carmi nipped Harrisburg for 3rd 55-54.  Vienna over Anna Jonesboro in the 5th place game 80-47 and what turned into the most talked about game after an Eldorado player threw a really cheap shot elbow to the  head of a Hamilton County Fox which required him to go to the hospital.  No foul was called on the play, but it was caught on video and caused uproar overnight.  The Foxes would win 60-49.

Sesser:  Goreville won the Sesser Valier Tournament beating Waltonville in the finals 66-59.  Altamont nipped Red Bud 44-42 for 3rd place, DuQuoin took the Consolation title over Sesser 59-54 and Marissa beat New Athens for 7th place 53-49.
