The Salem Lady Wildcats dropped their Benton Tournament opener to Harrisburg 41-33. Salem trailed the entire game until tying it for the first time with a little over 2 minutes left in the 3rd. Salem was 9-of-10 from the foul line which held in their comeback effort. Jordan Kessler led Salem with 14 followed by Emma Gregg with 10. McKenzie Boyd had 10 to lead the Lady Bulldogs who improve to 13-3 while Salem drops to 9-6. Salem will take on Carbondale in the consolation quarterfinal today at 6pm in the East Gym after the Terriers fell to Mt Zion 56-43.
Also winning yesterday in at Benton, Civic Memorial knocked off West Frankfort, Vienna over Herrin, Goreville beat Olney, Mount Vernon advanced beating DuQuoin.
The Centralia Annies went 2-0 to open the Peoria Manual Tournament on Wednesday including a 40-30 win over East Peoria as well as a win over Chatham Glenwood. They will return to action today to take on Peoria High at 4:45.
The SC Lady Cougars beat Marshall 58-52 to finish their pool at the Dieterich Tournament at 2-1. That is good enough for them to advance to tonight’s championship game at 6pm against Brownstown/St Elmo.
