1st place winner in Daffy Dill Garden Club Downtown Decorating Box Contest decorated by State Farm Insurance.

Siretha Howe of Midwest Farm and Home took 2nd place in the Downtown Decorating Box Contest.

The winners have been selected in the Daffy Dill Garden Club’s annual Downtown Decorating Box Contest.

The first-place winner was Kert Martin’s State Farm Insurance.  The box located in front of his office on East Main Street is patterned after “I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus”.  It was designed by Connie Seymour, Ann Marie Hays, Daniel Martin, and Kert Martin.  The garden club notes the four did a nice job with a great team effort.   1st place has a prize of $500.

Second place went to Siretha Howe of Midwest Farm and Land.  The various characters were ‘free hand’ painted by Howe.  Her box is located on East Main on the courthouse square.  The club notes Howe’s amazing talent that they are lucky to have in Salem.  Howe plans to give her $300 2nd place prize to a family in need.  Those who would like to make a nomination may do so on her Facebook page.

Third-place winner was Joe Black Agency.  Joe Black, Mathew Lockhart, Annett Whalen, and Johnathan Merritt put together the box design in a planter in front of their office in the 100 block of East Main.  While the garden club noted the great teamwork, the three guys gave Whalen all the credit.   The third place prize was $200.

Garden Club President Dee Hansen says all the planters were well done again this year and she wants to thank all the participants.

Joe Black Insurance takes third in the decorating contest.
