The Salem Wildcats fell to 2-9 on the season and 0-3 in the Cahokia Conference with a road loss at Freeburg 67-56 as senior standout Cole Stuart led the Midgets with a game high 31 points including going 12-of-13 from the free throw line and in doing so, surpassed the career 1000 point mark on and was honored. Salem got 19 points from Connor Tennyson and 12 from Gavin Zimmermann as Salem had opportunities but the 3rd quarter saw them go from down 1 to down 15. Salem is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to East Alton Wood River.
Also in the Cahokia last night, Breese Central took the early upper hand in the league with a victory over Columbia 41-34 and Roxana beat Wood River 59-34.
The Centralia Orphans started the night 1 of 5 remaining undefeated Class 3a teams in the state. They would live up to the hype as they went to Marion and came away with a 58-28 victory. The Centralia Orphans freshmen are in action at Althoff today.
The SC Cougars improved to 6-3 with their 48-33 win over Martinsville. Max Magnus led SC with 15, Westin Neilson finished with 11. SC will host Sandoval Tuesday night.
The Mount Vernon Rams are in action today at the Dan Cross Shootout in Carbondale after blowing out Cahokia on the road last night 82-65.
